CBD Extraction. Why it makes a difference to the quality of CBD and the potential benefits

Today we look at the extraction methods used in the cannabis industry, and how CBD is extrapolated.

There are three common ways that most CBD manufacturers make CBD oil:

Supercritical CO2 Extraction
Using high pressure carbon dioxide to maintain a cooler temperature during the extraction process, this method delivers the purest CBD oil whilst preserving all the beneficial qualities. While this is the most reliable method, it is also the most expensive and will often be reflected in the end-product price.

Ethanol or Isopropyl Alcohol
This process involves the whole plant soaked in solvent/alcohol before any ethanol is evaporated so only the oil is left behind. Though this is the least expensive way of extracting CBD, the method includes evaporating the alcohol through burning, which may damage the beneficial elements of the plant itself. There is also the potential that any THCA within the plant will be converted to THC. When THCA (the raw compound in Cannabis) is heated to more than 70 degrees it becomes THC which is the psychoactive element.

Carrier Oil Extraction
Using hemp seed or olive oil to make CBD (or other oils such as coconut or olive), this method is extremely effective at extracting the cannabinoids, although they are also used to dilute stronger CBD products (caution: oils made with neurotoxic solvents may result in unsafe residues, impeding the immune function and beneficial qualities. In the absence of regulation, it is important that you trust these companies and the information printed on the product label).
