What is CBD?

CBD, short for Cannabidiol, is found in the cannabis hemp plant. This natural chemical compound makes up part of the plant, alongside it’s well-known counterpart THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). CBD and THC are the two most prominent Cannabinoids found in the plant which contains more than 100 in total. THC is considered the psychoactive part of the plant, which can get people high; whereas CBD is non-psychoactive and is known for its potential health benefits.

CBD interacts with the endo-cannabinoid system within our bodies. This is a network of receptors that create homeostasis in the body, which promotes optimal performance for basic human functions – such as sleep regulation, immune system, appetite, inflammatory response, regulation of pain, and brain functions such as mood and memory.

Historically, the cannabis plant has been used for its benefits for the last 5,000 years. In recent times, the plant has been modified to increase the THC levels for recreational use. However, in the production of CBD, the plants are 100% natural and organic and therefore the plant structure is considered complete.

CBD has the same chemical formula as THC, but the atoms are arranged differently. This slight variance causes THC to create a psychoactive effect while CBD lacks such an influence.

The effects of CBD include:

* Reduction of psychotic symptoms

* Relief from convulsions and nausea

* Decreased anxiety

* Decreased inflammation
